Title Biography
James Beaman’s career has embraced virtually every stage genre, from the classics, to musical theatre, to the cabaret and nightclub circuit. His recent credits include two years with the First National Tour of the Tony Award winning Best Musical Monty Python’s Spamalot, starring as Sir Robin (the role originated by David Hyde Pierce), directed by Mike Nichols and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw.  James starred as Albin opposite Maxwell Caulfield in La Cage Aux Folles for the Ogunquit Playhouse Diamond Jubilee, directed by BT McNicholl. Transformation is one of Beaman’s special talents, his credits including the two man tour de force The Mystery of Irma Vep, Tom/Phyllis/Leslie in Sylvia, and the one man extravaganza Fully Committed,  in which Beaman portrayed over 20 different characters.  James was the creator and star of six acclaimed works for the cabaret stage, for which he received numerous awards and accolades.  He performed his extraordinary impersonation of Marlene Dietrich  in theatres and nightclub venues throughout New York City, across the US, and in Berlin, Germany, and was the subject of a short film by Rick McKay entitled Illusions.  His original revue of the songs of Leslie Bricusse, Crazy World, which he performed with singer Goldie Dver, was awarded the MAC Award for Revue of the Year in 2002.  Beaman’s heart is in the classical theatre.  He received his MFA from the Shakespeare Theatre Company Academy for Classical Acting at George Washington University, where he studied with former Juilliard Drama Division director Michael Kahn.  In recent seasons he has performed leading classical roles in: the Wars of the Roses trilogy at Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Julius Caesar for Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis, As You Like It at The Kennedy Center, Posthumous in Cymbeline with Taffety Punk for the Shakespeare in Washington Festival, and Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet and the title role of Macbeth Off-Broadway for ShakespeareNYC on Theatre Row.  The son of theatrical parents, Beaman began his training early at his family’s theatre school and company in his home state of Massachusetts and received his BFA in acting from Boston University. In New York, James has studied with Tim Phillips, Wynn Handman, Louis Scheeder, and most recently with Matthew Corozine.
