MY WORK WITH YOUNG ACTORS

I started acting when I was twelve, and both of my parents were theatre educators.  My first job out of college was teaching classical theatre to teens, and directing them in a touring children's theatre company.  At virtually every regional theatre I have worked at, from The Kennedy Center to Shakespeare festivals around the country, I have led workshops and master classes for young performers.  I co-created the Goodspeed Musicals Audition Intensive, preparing high schoolers to audition for college theatre programs.  In the three years I led the workshop, our students gained admission to most of the top theatre programs.  I have led NY workshops for visiting groups of aspiring young actors, including students from President Obama's alma mater, the Punahou School in Hawaii.  What I can do for your young actor?

  • Intensive and supportive one on one coaching on both dramatic and sung material

  • Expert assistance in selection of monologues and songs tailored to their unique qualities

  • Coaching and counseling for the college audition and combined audition processes

MY 20 YEARS AS A NY ACTOR AT WORK FOR YOU

A teacher teaches a technique.  A coach uses your technique and a host of others, as well as a director's eye, to get you to your best work.  Whether you need to coach sides for an important audition, develop your skills in Shakespeare and classic texts, prepare for your college entry audition, or put together a killer arsenal of monologues that are perfect for you, I can help you get there.  I have studied virtually every modality and method of acting in my studies at Boston University, the Academy for Classical Acting, and with some of New York's top teachers including Tim Phillips, Wynn Handman and Matthew Corozine.  I have also performed in nearly every genre, from Shakespeare to musical theatre.  I am also a working actor, which means I am out there just like you, and I know what it takes to do great, authentic auditions and book work!

SHAKESPEARE FOR ACTORS AT ALL LEVELS

I was trained by the best.  The faculty at The Academy for Classical Acting at the Shakespeare Theatre, under the direction of Michael Kahn, gave me the practical skills and deep understanding of classic texts that make for an expressive, authentic classical actor.  What I can do for you?

  • Teach you the nuts and bolts of breaking down the text, from scanning blank verse, to use of rhetorical forms, to the use of operative words and rhythm for clarity and meaning

  • Get you past the traps of emotionality and generalization to a place of honesty, depth and powerful communication in your acting of classical material

  • Empower you to choose the right material for auditions and go after those great roles you want to play
